The New Chicago Way
We all know the old "Chicago Way," where Ward Committeemen carried out the marching orders of aldermen to ensure their power is protected, but it doesn't have to be that way.
We imagine a Democratic Committee that protects the voice of regular, working class democratic voters by ensuring transparency, accessibility, and accountability in our local politics.
We deserve local politics that value our diversity, our input, and the integrity of our democracy.
Our ward is rich with talent. As committeewoman, I will coordinate issue-based advisory boards comprised of local experts and stakeholders in their field to review existing legislative plans and programming as well as recommend future priorities.
All member applications, credentials, and reports would be public as would board bylaws, meetings, and minutes.
These volunteer boards will not only engage and educate the public, but hold our elected officials accountable to democratic values.
